At Tenuta Torciano, the most popular activity among our most adventurous guests is the ancient tradition of Truffle Hunting.

For centuries, Tuscans have gone into the forest looking for truffles, a delicacy that is part of the culture of rural Tuscany. Truffles, also known as tubers, grow spontaneously in the ground near the roots of trees and shrubs, especially oaks and forest oaks, with which they form a symbiotic relationship.

Visitors are first shown how to identify and find a truffle. Then a professional guide leads guests on an excursion into the surrounding woods with specially trained dogs to search for the little treasures. At the end of the hunt, guests can join a Cooking Class, learning to prepare and cook the dishes built around the truffles they found. The day combines the beauty of the Tuscan countryside with a meal paired with 10 different kind of wines.

Famous guests

Truffle hunting, on camera

Many guests have chosen to spend an unforgettable day in the name of truffles and good wine. After hosting Forbes a few months earlier, the popular news, videoblog and podcast website BuzzFeed came to document the experience too. The "Bring Me!" team took part in a Cooking Class after the hunt, learning how to make fresh homemade pasta and cook the truffles found in our private forest. The video was later published on buzzfeed.com and buzzfeedtasty, reaching almost 2 million views.

In October it was the turn of the famous Chinese singer and actor Timmy Xu (Xu Weizhou), a face of the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar and Sino-Europe travel ambassador for a Chinese magazine. A full day of filming, always centred on truffle hunting, ended with a complete tasting of Torciano wines — the highlight of his first visit to Italy.

A day with 30 bloggers from across Europe

Finally, in November, @blogger.week organised a beautiful day with 30 of the most influential Travel Bloggers from Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Poland), Austria, Cyprus, Singapore, Turkey and Italy. The group spent a couple of hours in the company of Pierluigi and his staff, taking stunning pictures throughout a guided tour of the winery, the estate's own truffle wood and the pergola, where they could taste all the products of the estate in a Tuscan lunch of typical dishes such as Lasagna with truffles, Ribollita, stewed wild boar and Cantuccini. Many of them had never seen a truffle before visiting Tenuta Torciano, and it is always a great pleasure to teach the secrets and export the treasures of the Tuscan tradition all over the world.
