Tenuta Torciano
About
Torciano Magazine is the journal of Tenuta Torciano, the Giachi family winery in San Gimignano: wine, food and Tuscan life told from the vineyards the family has farmed since 1720.
This is where we write down what happens at the estate through the year: harvest and pruning, tastings in the cellar, the recipes that come out of our kitchen, the people who stop by, and the corners of Tuscany we love. Every story is published in English and in Italian, for people who already live Tuscany and for those still dreaming about it.
The estate
Tenuta Torciano, San Gimignano
Tenuta Torciano was founded in 1720 and is now run by the thirteenth generation of the Giachi family: Pierluigi Giachi with his wife Luciana and their son Emanuele, alongside a team that is largely family — around twenty-five relatives work at the winery.
The cellar is at Via Crocetta 16, Loc. Ulignano, a few minutes from the medieval towers of San Gimignano, among the vineyards that roll down towards the Elsa valley. It is open every day of the year, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm Italian time.
The cellar
Wines, oil and truffle
The house white is Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Italy's first DOC. Around it sit the Tuscan reds and the labels the family selects from the other classic appellations:
- Vernaccia di San Gimignano, whites and rosés, sparkling wines;
- Chianti and Chianti Classico;
- Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano;
- the estate's Super Tuscans, such as Bartolomeo, Baldassarre and Terrestre;
- dessert wines: Vin Beato, Vin Santo and passito;
- extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and truffle products.
Visiting
Experiences at the estate
Tenuta Torciano runs more than forty-five different experiences, from a one-hour tasting to a full day. The ones guests ask for most:
- guided tastings with Tuscan boards and appetizers;
- tasting straight from the barrels in the cellar, with the people who make the wine;
- extra virgin olive oil tasting with a walk through the olive groves;
- cooking classes: fresh pasta, Tuscan recipes, desserts, pizza;
- truffle hunting with the dogs, followed by lunch;
- lunches and dinners among the vines, in the garden or in the cave;
- horseback rides, jeep safari through the vineyards, archery, helicopter flights over the Chianti hills;
- panoramic tasting at Altezza Winery, on the terrace facing the towers of San Gimignano;
- a night at Hotel Torciano "Vecchio Asilo" and shopping at Bottega Torciano.

Wine Class Tour
When we are the ones travelling
A few times a year the Giachi family leaves San Gimignano and takes its bottles to the United States: these are the Wine Class Tours, tasting evenings hosted in homes, restaurants and private clubs, where the estate's wines are poured alongside Tuscan food and every label gets its story told. Many of the articles you find here were born on those evenings.
How we work
Every article starts from facts checked at the estate: dates, names, vintages and recipes come from the people who were there. The photographs are taken in our own vineyards and kitchens. Each piece exists in both English and Italian, with the same content. If you spot a mistake, write to us and we will correct it.
The best way to read these stories is to drink them.
