The 2013 harvest of Nobile di Montepulciano earned four stars out of five, making it the first Italian DOCG wine with "zero emissions".

The score came at the close of "Anteprima del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano", the event where the new vintages preparing to reach the market are presented.

The goal is to reach neutrality for climate-altering gas emissions by 2020, through good practices such as reforestation, photovoltaic panels and energy production from biomass-fired power plants. Every bottle produced in the territory will carry a special certificate.

The market is responding well too: sales of Nobile di Montepulciano are growing in Italy and abroad, especially in Germany, China and the United States.
